VISITING
DRAKE’S ISLAND

GUIDED TOURS OF DRAKE’S ISLAND

Starting your tour from Plymouth (Barbican) landing stage, you will take the ferry through Plymouth Sound to the Island. Keep your eyes peeled for some amazing island wildlife as you arrive, particularly the seals which like to nap on the rocks, land on the jetty and learn about the seagrass that is under your feet.

Your tour will last 2 hours during which time, you will learn about the history of the island as you walk the old paths, steps and tunnels. Who was held prisoner on the Island, is the island part of Devon or Cornwall…..plus much more.

View Plymouth and Cornwall from a whole new perspective as you climb to the highest part of the island, the perfect photo opportunity!

Our tour guides are experts and know everything there is to know about the island and how it has played it’s part in history. They can tell you all about the 4 giant cannons still on the island, the casemates, the new discoveries we are making every week and how the Island plays its part in supporting local communities and charities.

DRAKE’S ISLAND FERRY

The public tours of Drake’s Island are run in conjunction with Plymouth Boat Trips, who provide an independent ferry service to and from the island from the Barbican Landing Stage in Plymouth.

As such when booking a tour via our website, the ferry needs to be booked independently. Once a tour has been booked through our website, a link will be provided, which in turn takes you to their website where you can book a corresponding return ferry trip.

The ferry prices are currently £7.50 for an adult and £3.50 for a child.

All tours can be booked via Plymouth Boat Trips

DOGS ON DRAKE’S ISLAND

Well-behaved dogs and their owners are welcome on Drakes Island, however, we can only accept small to medium-sized dogs, your dog needs to be booked onto the tour for which there is a fee of £3.00 (ex booking fee) per dog and have clearance from the guide .

Without this, your dog will not be allowed to get on the ferry over. Please contact us for more information.

Please note: Owners are required to carry their dogs from the boat on to the landing stage and then up the stairs on to the island.

DEAR DOGS,

You must make sure that your owners can carry you on and off the boat, to and from the island and you must sit on your owner’s lap or right by their legs whilst on the boat – this is to make sure your owner is safe. Please make sure that your owner carries you up the metal grating as this is spiky and may hurt your paws and we don’t want you having to go to the vet.

Make sure you keep your owner on their lead at all times – no one wants a lost owner, especially down the tunnels. Could you remind your owner to pick up the poop please and take it home ( please don’t leave it on the island or the boat – Our boat captain won’t be happy).

Please make sure your owner keeps you hydrated….we have no puddles!
